Invention of search engines ease our life. Personally, I use internet search probably 100-200 times a day. Since, Altavista start indexing dynamic pages creating an accurate result start blossing. Two stanford guys did an intense search on this and came out with a most trusted company ever in the history of WWW. Google became the king in just 2 year of its launch. Companies motto "Dont get evil" really appease net surfers. While Google were launching new service and all in free, others were worring about reveneue cost. It was like a master idea to advertise in a open manner without being evil, and soon Google turned to billions.
Many people inspired from google and start working on similar project, another successful project and inktomi search and Gigablast. Some people took a short cut using new technology. In India I found couple of companies which claims that they have built their own search engines, but my skeptism always turn on my head on these claim. Being a computer science student, I know its not a night game to produce accurate searching system.
Dhoondho.com a venture of Dhoondho Labs, claim that they've build a "VIKI" and "COSMOS" (Content OrganiSer for Meaning Oriented Search). I just hopped some quaries and found that this systems is using "RSS" feeds from another engines like MSN and YAHOO. On further investitage I found their cached system senseless and that shows that they are not even crawling a single page. When i contacted this company and talked about what I've found, they said everything is true and they have patents. I investigated further and found that they dont have any patents or virtually they just boasted things without bolstering their comments. In an another incident a famous News channel showed a news about "INDIAN GOOGLE" a new search engine which search pages only from India, on my investigation I found that this search engine is using GOOGLE API with result localization.
Some people work hard to bring something revolutry and in keeping this they spend their whole life, while other just use shortcuts and claim falliciously. Every legit search system should have control on its RSS and Search APIs.
